Autumn Golf Is Worth Borrowing For, They Say—But Don’t Neglect Your Skin

Cool autumn breezes feel refreshing, but skin exposed to UV all summer can develop darker spots and rougher texture when it meets dry air. Missing this window can make melasma and pigmentation more pronounced and lengthen treatment. Dr. Jungha Kang of SEOLREIM CLINIC shares an autumn skin prescription for making proper use of sheet masks.

Autumn Rounds and Skincare

Imagine a soft autumn breeze as you leave the clubhouse after a round. The thought alone feels refreshing, but it can adversely affect skin. One study reported that skin exposed to prolonged summer sunlight shows substantially increased melanin activity during the transition to autumn. Neglecting this period can deepen dark spots, roughen texture, worsen flushing, and extend treatment time.

Autumn is an especially dry season for skin. Tightness and flaking after a shower occur as moisture lost through sweat evaporates in the wind, weakening the barrier. These are not merely uncomfortable symptoms; they often lead to fine lines or redness from dilated vessels. Areas exposed directly to UV, such as the backs of the hands and neck, are often neglected and age readily. Pigmentation and wrinkles may become noticeable there before the face, so extra attention is needed.

It is easy to assume autumn is safe, but UV intensity remains high—around 70% of summer levels. Skin is damaged even on cloudy days, so apply plenty of sunscreen before a round and make a habit of reapplying every nine holes.

Once Skin Is Damaged, Recovery Is Difficult

Autumn is a transition between recovery and preparation for skin. Appropriate treatment at this time can reduce summer UV damage and keep skin stable into the dry winter ahead. As a fellow golf enthusiast, I know the joy of playing in the sunshine. But caring for skin is also important so that a pleasurable moment does not leave lasting damage.

Just as lowering your score requires training and strategy, skin needs a seasonal routine and early treatment. What I most want readers to remember is that once skin breaks down, recovery takes a long time. Enjoy your autumn rounds fully, but give your skin a little more attention. That is the surest way to preserve healthy skin for years.
